Student Safety Policy

Purpose

The Student Safety Policy at ICE Islamia is designed to foster a respectful, inclusive, and secure learning environment for all students. Rooted in the Qur'an and Sunnah and aligned with Ontario's educational standards, this policy underscores our unwavering commitment to the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of our students.

Core Values and Guiding Principles

At ICE Islamia, we are guided by the following values:

  • Every student has the right to feel safe, respected, and valued.
  • Islamic teachings and ethical conduct are foundational to our school culture.
  • Respect for diversity, personal dignity, and the sanctity of the learning environment is essential.

Islamic Morals and Conduct

All students are expected to:

  • Exhibit Islamic character traits such as kindness, honesty, humility, and patience.
  • Demonstrate proper Islamic etiquette in speech, dress, and behavior.
  • Show respect for religious practices, educators, peers, and the school environment.

Respect for Personal Space and Boundaries

Students must:

  • Respect the physical and emotional boundaries of others.
  • Ensure all physical interactions reflect haya (modesty) and adab (etiquette).
  • Avoid any form of unwanted physical contact, including pushing, hitting, or inappropriate closeness.

Behavioural Expectations

During Instruction Time:

  • Engage actively and respectfully in class activities.
  • Use materials and equipment responsibly.
  • Contribute to a positive and inclusive classroom environment.

During Breaks and Transitions:

  • Remain in designated supervised areas.
  • Treat school property and peers with care.
  • Promptly report unsafe behavior to a staff member.
  • Return to class on time after breaks.

Zero Tolerance for Physical Aggression

ICE Islamia enforces a strict zero-tolerance policy for:

  • Physical aggression including hitting, kicking, or threatening behavior.
  • Intimidation or involvement in fights.

Consequences may include:

  • Immediate removal from the classroom.
  • Disciplinary investigation.
  • Suspension or expulsion in accordance with Ontario's Code of Conduct.

Official Policy on Bullying

Definition:

Bullying involves repeated, intentional actions that intimidate, harm, or humiliate others. Forms include:

  • Verbal harassment or teasing.
  • Social exclusion or spreading rumors.
  • Physical intimidation.
  • Cyberbullying via texts, emails, or social media.

Reporting and Investigation:

  • Students and staff are encouraged to report all bullying incidents confidentially.
  • Investigations are conducted promptly and fairly.
  • Responses may involve disciplinary measures and restorative practices.

Consequences:

  • Verbal warnings and meetings with parents.
  • Suspension or expulsion.
  • Conflict resolution or peer mediation sessions.

Cybersecurity and Online Safety

Student Guidelines:

  • Use school technology responsibly and solely for educational purposes.
  • Avoid sharing personal information online.
  • Refrain from cyberbullying or distributing harmful content.
  • Uphold Islamic manners in all digital interactions.

Staff and Parent Responsibilities:

  • Staff will supervise digital platforms and enforce cybersecurity policies.
  • Parents must monitor their child's online activity and reinforce responsible use at home.

Reporting:

  • All concerns regarding cyber safety should be reported immediately to staff.
  • Investigations will be discreet and respectful.

Three-Strike Policy for Cyberbullying or Misuse of Devices:

Access to Staff Technology and Confidential Material

Students are strictly prohibited from:

  • Using staff devices or accessing staff accounts.

  • Tampering with any confidential school data.

Violations may result in:

  • Confiscation of devices.
  • Disciplinary review and potential suspension.
  • Parent notification and official documentation in student records.

Attendance, Absences, and Late Arrivals

  • Late arrivals must report to the office upon entry.
  • Parents are expected to inform the school promptly about absences.
  • Chronic lateness or unreported absences will lead to follow-up actions.

Staff Responsibilities

All ICE Islamia staff are expected to:

  • Model Islamic values and maintain professional conduct.
  • Address unsafe or disrespectful behavior promptly.
  • Report safety concerns to administration.
  • Foster a structured and supportive classroom environment.

Parent and Guardian Expectations

Parents and guardians are encouraged to:

  • Reinforce Islamic manners and school expectations at home.
  • Collaborate with staff on behavior and safety concerns.
  • Remain actively involved in school life and events.
  • Encourage their children to report safety or well-being issues.

Reporting and Incident Response

  • All incidents must be reported immediately to a staff member.
  • Incident forms must be submitted within 24 hours.
  • All reports are confidential and treated seriously.
  • Responses will include documentation and appropriate action (disciplinary and restorative).

Education, Prevention, and Awareness

ICE Islamia promotes safety through:

  • Akhlaq (Islamic character) education.
  • Anti-bullying and digital safety workshops.
  • Peer mediation and respectful communication training.
  • Safety-focused school assemblies and student-led initiatives.

Emergency Evacuation Policy

Procedures:

  • Staff will calmly guide students to the designated assembly point at the rear parking lot of 140 La Rose Avenue.
  • Students must line up silently and follow instructions.
  • Attendance will be taken immediately.
  • No one may re-enter the building until clearance is given by emergency services or administration.

Preparedness:

  • Regular fire and lockdown drills will be conducted.
  • Students must treat all drills seriously and act accordingly.

Staff Duties:

  • Be familiar with evacuation routes.
  • Keep emergency rosters accessible.
  • Remain with students and ensure all are accounted for.

Parent Communication:

  • In case of a real emergency, parents will be informed via school communication channels.
  • Parents should avoid calling the school during emergencies to prevent disruptions.
